General

What Wamome is and where we're heading

What is Wamome?
+
Wamome is a modern private messaging platform built for fast, secure, and beautifully simple communication. It's a full-featured messenger โ€” text, voice, video, file sharing, and more โ€” designed from the ground up with privacy as a first principle, not an afterthought. We're currently in open beta and working toward a full public launch.
When will Wamome be publicly available?
+
We're currently in open beta for mobile, with a phased rollout to waitlist members. Our target for the desktop and web app is Q4 2024, and a full unrestricted public launch is planned for Q1 2025. Joining the waitlist is the best way to get early access. View the full roadmap โ†’
What devices and platforms are supported?
+
iOS and Android apps are currently in beta. macOS, Windows, and Linux desktop apps, along with a web app at app.wamome.com, are planned for Q4 2024. At public launch, all major platforms will be supported simultaneously.
Is Wamome free to use?
+
Yes โ€” Wamome's core messaging experience will always be free. We may introduce optional premium features or a Pro tier in the future, but the fundamental product โ€” messaging, calls, file sharing โ€” will remain free. There are no ads and we don't sell your data.
Is this connected to WhatsApp or Meta?
+
No. Wamome is a completely independent company with no affiliation to WhatsApp, Meta, or any other major tech corporation. We're independently built and funded with a single focus: privacy-first communication done right.

Privacy & Encryption

How we protect your messages and your data

Are messages end-to-end encrypted?
+
Yes. All private messages โ€” text, voice, video, and media โ€” are end-to-end encrypted by default. This means only you and the person you're communicating with can read the content of your messages. Not even Wamome can access them. Encryption is not optional or a setting you have to enable โ€” it's always on.
What encryption protocol does Wamome use?
+
Wamome uses a modern Signal Protocol-inspired end-to-end encryption implementation, combined with 256-bit AES encryption for messages at rest on your device. Keys are generated on your device and never leave it. The specifics of our protocol are documented in our security overview.
Does Wamome store my messages on its servers?
+
Messages are encrypted before they leave your device and delivered to recipients. Our servers act as an encrypted relay โ€” they cannot read the content. Once delivered, messages are deleted from our relay infrastructure. You control message storage on your device.
What data does Wamome collect about me?
+
We practice strict data minimization. We collect only what's technically necessary: your phone number (for account verification), basic usage metadata (app version, connection type), and crash reports if you opt in. We do not collect your contacts, location, behavioral data, or message content. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Can Wamome be compelled to hand over my messages to authorities?
+
Because messages are end-to-end encrypted and we don't hold decryption keys, we are technically unable to provide message content even if legally required. We may be required to provide metadata we do hold (account registration data). Any government data requests are logged in our transparency report.
Are group chats also end-to-end encrypted?
+
Yes. Group messages use multi-party end-to-end encryption, meaning each message is encrypted individually for each recipient using their public key. Group members can only read messages sent while they are a member of the group. If someone leaves a group, they lose access to future messages.

Account

Setting up and managing your Wamome account

How do I create a Wamome account?
+
During beta, accounts are created via waitlist invite. When invited, you'll download the app, verify your phone number via SMS, and set your display name and profile. Phone number verification is the only required step โ€” no email address needed, no personal information required beyond that.
Can I use Wamome without sharing my phone number?
+
Currently, phone number verification is required to create an account and prevent spam. We are actively working on alternative verification methods โ€” including email-based and username-only accounts โ€” as a future option for users who prefer not to link a phone number.
Can I delete my account and all my data?
+
Yes. You can delete your account at any time directly in the app. Account deletion removes your profile, removes you from all groups, and triggers deletion of any account data we hold within 30 days. Your messages on recipients' devices are not affected โ€” only you can delete your own sent messages via the delete feature.
Can I use multiple accounts on one device?
+
Multi-account support is planned for a future update. At launch, one account per device is supported. You can, however, use the same account across multiple devices simultaneously.

Features

What Wamome can do today and what's coming

How large can group chats be?
+
Current group chat limit during beta is 256 members. With communities, planned for Q2โ€“Q3 2025, groups will scale up to 10,000 members with additional moderation tools and admin controls.
Does Wamome support disappearing messages?
+
Yes. You can set messages to auto-delete after a custom timer โ€” from 30 seconds to 7 days. This can be set per conversation, and when active, messages disappear from both sides of the conversation after the timer expires. The sender can also manually delete messages for everyone, with no time limit.
Can I search through my messages?
+
Yes. Message search is fully local โ€” it searches your on-device message database without sending queries to any server. This preserves both your privacy and the search speed. You can search by contact name, message content, or media type.
Does Wamome support message reactions?
+
Yes. You can react to any message with a range of emoji reactions. Reactions are end-to-end encrypted along with the message they're attached to.
Will there be a Wamome for business?
+
Yes. Business messaging tools are planned for Q4 2025 โ€” including verified business profiles, team workspaces, and a business API. The business tier will share the same privacy-first infrastructure as the consumer product.

๐Ÿ“ž
Voice & Video Calls

Making calls with Wamome

Are calls end-to-end encrypted?
+
Yes. Both voice and video calls use SRTP (Secure Real-Time Protocol) with DTLS key exchange, ensuring end-to-end encryption throughout the call. Call metadata is minimized โ€” we don't log call content or duration on our servers.
Is video calling available?
+
Voice calling is live in the current beta. Video calling is in active development and will be rolling out in a near-future beta update. Group voice and video calls are planned for post-launch.
Do calls use my data plan or minutes?
+
Calls use your internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data), not traditional phone minutes. They work over any internet connection globally โ€” so international calls cost nothing beyond your normal data usage.

๐Ÿ“Ž
Media & Files

Sharing files, photos, and documents

What file types and sizes can I send?
+
You can send any file type โ€” documents, images, audio, video, archives โ€” up to 2GB per file during beta. Post-launch limits will be confirmed, but large file support is a priority for us. All files are end-to-end encrypted in transit and delivery.
Are photos compressed when sent?
+
By default, images are lightly optimized for delivery speed. You can choose to send any photo or video in original full quality โ€” just select "Original quality" when sharing. This uses more data but preserves full resolution.
Do shared media files expire?
+
Media files are stored on your device and are not hosted on our servers indefinitely. Once delivered, files exist only on recipients' devices. You can configure media auto-download settings and storage behavior in your app settings.

Early Access & Waitlist

How to get in and what to expect

How do I get early access?
+
Join the waitlist on our homepage. We're rolling out invites progressively โ€” you'll receive an email with your invitation when your spot opens. We prioritize earlier signups, so joining sooner moves you up the queue.
How long is the wait?
+
Current waitlist invitation time varies. We're sending invites in waves as we scale our infrastructure. Most people are hearing back within 2โ€“6 weeks. We'll keep waitlist members updated with progress by email.
Can I refer friends to move up the waitlist?
+
Yes โ€” a referral system is in the works. Once you join the waitlist, you'll receive a shareable link. Each person who joins via your link moves you up the queue. Details will be in your confirmation email.
Is the beta free to use?
+
Completely free. All beta access is free with no credit card required. Beta users will also receive benefits when Wamome goes fully public.

Future Plans

Where Wamome is headed

Will Wamome add AI features?
+
Yes, but carefully. AI enhancements are planned for 2026 โ€” including real-time message translation, conversation summaries, and smart notifications. All AI processing will be done on-device where possible, and any cloud processing will be privacy-preserving by design. We'll never train AI models on your message content.
Will Wamome ever add ads?
+
No. Advertising is fundamentally incompatible with our privacy-first model โ€” it would require data collection and profiling that we are committed never to do. Our business model is based on optional premium features, business tools, and enterprise plans, not advertising.
Will Wamome be open source?
+
We plan to open-source our encryption protocol and key security components so they can be independently audited. A full open-source client is under consideration. We believe in transparency as a pillar of trust.
How will Wamome make money?
+
Through optional premium features for power users, business accounts and teams, enterprise plans for organizations, and a developer API. The core personal messaging product will remain free forever. We don't sell data, we don't show ads โ€” our business model is simple: build tools people find valuable enough to pay for.
