Overview
Wamome ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect when you use the Wamome messaging platform and applications, how we use that data, and the rights you have over it.
We believe in radical transparency. This document is written in plain language because we want you to understand it, not just sign off on it. If anything here is unclear, please contact us — we'll explain it.
We do not read your messages. We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads. Message content is end-to-end encrypted and we cannot access it.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Phone number: Used to create and verify your account. We store a hashed version for account lookup, not the number in plain text.
- Display name and profile photo: Optional. You choose what to share.
- Waitlist email: If you joined our waitlist before the app was available, we store your email to send an invite. It is not linked to your app account.
Information generated automatically
- Technical metadata: App version, operating system, device type, connection type (Wi-Fi / cellular). Used for debugging and compatibility.
- Usage data (opt-in only): Crash reports and aggregate performance analytics. You can opt out in Settings.
- Delivery receipts: Whether a message was delivered or read. This is standard to messaging and is visible to the sender. You can disable read receipts in Settings.
What we do NOT collect
- Message content (end-to-end encrypted — we cannot access it)
- Your contacts list
- Your location
- Behavioral data or usage patterns for advertising purposes
- Any biometric data
How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we collect strictly to operate and improve the Wamome service:
- Account creation, verification, and security
- Message delivery infrastructure (routing encrypted messages to recipients)
- Detecting and preventing abuse, spam, and illegal activity
- Improving app performance and fixing bugs
- Communicating with you about your account, the service, or your waitlist status
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, sell to third parties, or train AI models.
Data Retention
We retain your data only as long as necessary:
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Account data (phone hash, display name) | Until account is deleted, then 30 days |
| Message routing data (encrypted payloads) | Deleted upon delivery confirmation |
| Crash reports / technical logs | 90 days |
| Waitlist emails | Until invite sent or you request deletion |
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights under applicable data protection law (including GDPR for EU residents):
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Objection: Object to how we process your data in certain circumstances
- Withdraw consent: Opt out of optional data collection (crash reports) at any time in Settings
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@wamome.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Security
All messages sent through Wamome are end-to-end encrypted using modern cryptographic protocols. Your encryption keys are generated on your device and never leave it. We maintain technical and organizational measures to protect the account data we do hold, including encrypted storage, access controls, and regular security audits.
No system is perfect. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to security@wamome.com.
Minors
Wamome is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
International Data Transfers
Wamome operates from Ireland, EU. If you are located outside the EU, your limited account data may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws. Where we transfer data outside the EU/EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. Continued use of Wamome after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We keep previous versions archived — contact us if you want to see a prior version.
