What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser when you visit a website. They allow websites to remember information about your visit — such as your preferences or whether you've seen a notice — across sessions or page loads.
Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which work differently but serve comparable purposes. This policy covers all such technologies used on the wamome.com website.
This policy applies to wamome.com and associated web properties. The Wamome mobile and desktop apps use separate on-device storage mechanisms described in the In-App Storage section below.
Types of Cookies We Use
| Category | Purpose | Examples | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary | Essential for the website to function. Cannot be disabled. | Session tokens, CSRF protection, cookie consent record | No |
| Functional | Remember your preferences and choices on the site. | Language preference, theme preference | Yes |
| Analytics | Help us understand how visitors use the site — pages viewed, time spent, error pages. Data is aggregated and anonymised. | Page view counts, navigation paths | Yes |
We do not use advertising, targeting, or social media tracking cookies.
Third-Party Cookies
Where we use third-party services on our website (such as an analytics provider), those services may set their own cookies. We only use services that comply with applicable privacy law and have acceptable data practices. Current third-party services that may set cookies on wamome.com:
- Analytics provider (self-hosted or privacy-first third-party): Used for anonymised website usage statistics. IP addresses are anonymised before storage. No cross-site tracking.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or other advertising-oriented tracking services.
Managing and Disabling Cookies
You can control cookies in several ways:
Cookie banner
When you first visit wamome.com, a cookie consent banner will appear. You can accept all cookies, accept only strictly necessary cookies, or manage preferences individually. You can change your choices at any time by clicking "Cookie Settings" in the site footer.
Browser settings
All modern browsers allow you to view, block, and delete cookies. Instructions for major browsers:
Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the website from functioning correctly.
In-App Local Storage
The Wamome mobile and desktop applications use on-device storage (not browser cookies) for the following purposes:
- Message database: Encrypted local storage of your message history on your device
- Encryption keys: Your private keys are stored in your device's secure enclave or equivalent secure storage — never transmitted to our servers
- App preferences: Theme, notification settings, language, and other user preferences
- Media cache: Temporarily cached media files for display, managed by your app's storage settings
You control this data. You can clear your local data from Settings → Storage, or by deleting the app. Deleting the app removes all local data from your device. Message history stored on other recipients' devices is not affected.
Policy Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy as we add new features or in response to legal changes. We will notify you of material changes via the cookie consent banner on the website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
